Brands We Love: Bata

On this episode of Brands We Love, we focus on how BATA’s marketing strategies made it a household name in Kenya

The Bata shoe brand has been in existence for over 130 years.  On September 21, 1894, siblings Tomáš, Anna, and Antonín Baťa established the T. & A. Baťa Shoe Company in the rural town of Zlín, Czechoslovakia.

Since then, Bata’s expansion into the global footwear industry has been resilient and impressive. With headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, its retail chain spans over 5,300 stores in over 70 countries across five continents. It operates 21 production facilities in 18 countries and employs over 32,000 people worldwide.

Bata set up shop in Kenya in 1932. The company has left an indelible mark on our lives with a catalogue of shoes that includes Toughees, Bubblegummers, Patapata, Gumboots, Bata Ngoma, and Safari Boots. On this episode of Brands We Love, we focus on how BATA’s marketing strategies made it a household name in Kenya.
