Understanding fuel prices

The cost of fuel is a topic of everyday conversation for most Kenyans. Whether you're driving or taking a taxi, the struggle is shared. What's the reason for the high cost of fuel in Kenya?

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced new fuel prices that will take effect from August 15th.

In its latest review, the authority announced that the prices of Super Petrol and Kerosene have decreased by KSh 1, while the cost of Diesel remains unchanged.

“In Nairobi, Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene now retail at Kshs.185.31, Kshs.171.58 and Kshs.155.58 effective midnight for the next 30 days.” EPRA stated on its X page.

Still, fuel prices in Kenya remain painfully high, causing widespread concern, and the reason for the high cost is taxes.
