The Trump effect: Impact of raising tariffs on a country

Since he took office, President Trump has been enacting an increasing list of tariffs on specific countries and commodities. If implemented, what would be the impact?

On 2nd April 2025, President Trump imposed a 10% baseline tariff on all US trading partners. The new tariffs were suspended for 90 days, starting from April 10, 2025. If implemented, the new rate would increase tariffs on Kenyan exports to the US from the current 0 – 0.3% to 10%. This would increase the cost of goods exported from Kenya to the United States.
