For close to 70 years, Blue Band has been a household name in many Kenyan kitchens.

Originally a Dutch brand, the iconic margarine has long been a breakfast staple in Kenyan homes, even for those who can’t afford bread daily, and enjoy it as a treat during weekends or when there are visitors.

Blue Band was registered in 1947 in Kenya and officially launched in 1955 and has since been the spread of choice for families across the country.

It is an alternative to butter, which is expensive and is used in a variety of ways, from toasting and baking to cooking.

Years ago, before its rebranding in Kenya into plastic containers, the margarine was sold in tin packaging. The attraction was the smiling boy on the tin holding a slice of bread generously coated with Blue Band margarine.

Over time, several product lines have been unveiled in a bid to race after consumers and give them a wide range to choose from.

Apart from the Blue Band Original, some of the lines of products include Blue Band Spread for Bread, Blue Band Choco, Blue Band Porridge, Blue Band Peanut Butter, Blue Band Cold Pressed Canola Oil and Blue Band Real Mayonnaise.
