The highly regarded and accomplished media personality has come a long way since his first salary of KSh15,500 as a radio station producer in 1997.
In this conversation with Moolah on “Money and Fame,” Latiff gets candid.
Watch and find out if he would ever use a matatu, if he has used a boda boda recently, his thoughts on spending for Valentine’s Day, his opinion on getting paid with exposure, and what he regrets about saving for retirement.
Currently, Latiff is riding high as part of a three-host team on Nation Media Group’s newly launched ‘Fixing the Nation’ morning TV and Radio show that also includes Janet Mbugua and Mariam Bishar.
Before joining NMG, he was one of the hosts of the highly popular Standard Group’s ‘Situation Room’ morning radio show for five years. Additionally, Latiff has anchored prime time TV bulletins on KTN for many years.
Interestingly, he says that he maintains all these lucrative broadcast media jobs are his side hustle. His main employer is Eric Latiff, under the Zeze Digital Agency, a boutique communications consultancy, where he serves as the founder and director.
Describing his relationship with money as complicated and jokingly lamenting that money usually cheats on him, Latiff is practical: “I’m not like those people who say, ‘I am so strict on my finances, I can tell you where every shilling went.’ I think about money in terms of the needs that I have, the dreams and aspirations and what it means to finance them.”
Latiff has a parting shot for those just starting their careers: Don’t live for others, define your value.
